FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - Michigan State junior forward Jim Slater (Lapeer, Mich.) was selected as the CCHA Offensive Player of the Week (Oct. 27), after equaling his career-best five points (two goals, three assists) in MSU's 7-3 win at Western Michigan (Oct. 25). His first goal at the 6:14 mark of the opening stanza gave MSU a 1-0 lead, while his second goal at the 14:28 mark of the third period put MSU up 7-2. In addition, two of the goals he set up (Lalonde and Goebel) were a result of Slater winning the face-off and getting the puck to the forward for the quick shot.
Slater's selection marks the second time in his career he has earned CCHA Offensive Player of the Week honors.
For the season, Slater paces MSU in scoring with 11 points on seven goals and four assists. He leads the CCHA overall scoring race and ranks sixth in the nation in points-per-game (1.83). Overall, his 11 total points ties him with Michigan Tech's Chris Conner (9-2--11) for the national scoring lead. Meanwhile, his seven goals pace the CCHA and rank eighth in the nation (1.17).
Michigan State (3-3 overall, 2-2 CCHA) entertains Ferris State in a home-and-home series this weekend (Oct. 31-Nov. 1).
