EVANSTON, Ill. - Kim Schram had 18 kills and 10 digs for the Spartans in its 3-0 loss Friday in Evanston, Ill. (28-30, 29-31, 28-30). State moves to 19-10 overall and 11-8 in the Big Ten, while Northwestern is now 18-13 and 9-10 in conference play.
Nikki Colson added 37 assists for the Spartans, while Schram had a team-best six blocks. Megan Wallin and Jenny Rood each contributed five blocks on the night. MSU out-hit the Wildcats, .185-.135.
Northwestern won the first game, 30-28. Neither team led by more than three points throughout, though Northwestern controlled much of the game. The Spartans made the game as close as 29-28, but a kill from Iowana Lodzik gave the Wildcats the win. Both teams struggled with attack errors, as State hit .077 to Northwestern's .091. MSU's Michelle Kopka and Megan Wallin recorded three and four kills, respectively. Kim Schram had a team-best five digs, and added two block assists, while Jenny Rood had three block assists to go along with a kill. Iowana Lodzik had a game-high nine kills for Northwestern.
In the second game, the Spartans climbed back from a six-point deficit to tie the game at 29, but a kill and a service ace from Lodzik gave Northwestern the 31-29 win. Schram had four block assists and four kills, while Wallin added three block assists in the game. MSU hit .324 in the second game, to NU's .135.
Northwestern won the match with a 30-28 win in game three. Six service errors from the Spartans combined with attack errors hurt MSU. Schram had five kills in the game, while Villwock added three.
The Spartans play their final match of the Big Ten season Saturday in a 7 p.m. match at Illinois. State will gather for the NCAA Selection Show Sunday, Nov. 30 at 8 p.m. at Champps in the Eastwood Plaza.
