EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Central Collegiate Hockey Association has named Michigan State junior forward Colton Fretter (Harrow, Ont./Chatham Maroons) the RBC Financial Group CCHA Player of the Month for the month of November.
Fretter, who leads MSU in overall scoring with 15 points, registered nine points (four goals, five assists) in eight games during the month. This marks the first time in Fretter's career that he has received Player of the Month accolades.
"I'm really flattered," said Fretter. "I didn't expect that at all. My line has really been clicking as of late, and I have to thank both Drew (Miller) and Chris (Mueller). I wouldn't have any success without those two guys. Coming to the rink and working hard has really paid off."
Fretter tallied five points (two goals, three assists) in State's home-and-home sweep of Ferris State (Nov. 5-6). The junior forward also recorded three points (two goals, one assist) in MSU's 4-0 shutout at Wisconsin (Nov. 26). The Spartans finished the month with a 4-3-1 record overall.
Already having surpassed his career-best of seven goals set in a season (2002-03), Fretter is having his best year as a Spartan, leading the team in scoring with eight goals, three of them power-play markers, while registering seven assists. The Atlanta Thrashers' eighth-round draft pick is on pace to break his career-best 22 points, set his rookie season with the Spartans in 2002-03.
MSU faces Bowling Green in a home-and-home series this weekend (Dec. 3-4). On Friday, the teams meet at Munn Ice Arena, while the series shifts to BGSU Ice Arena on Saturday. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:05 p.m. both days.
