Jeff Lerg To Be Honored By USA Hockey

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State incoming goaltender recruit Jeff Lerg (Livonia, Mich.) will receive the Dave Peterson Goalie of the Year and the USA Hockey Junior Player of the Year awards at the 2005 USA Hockey Annual Congress, June 8-12, in Colorado Springs, Colo.
A two-year member of the Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League, Lerg set a new USHL record for wins in a single season (36) in 2004-05 en route to helping Omaha capture a share of the USHL regular-season championship.
The 5-foot-6, 150-lb. netminder was selected as the 2005 USHL Player of the Year and the Goaltender of the Year after posting a 36-11 record, a 2.16 goals-against average, a .916 saves percentage and six shutouts in 52 contests. He led the league in shutouts (6), GAA (2.16), wins (36), minutes played (3105:52) and ranked second in saves percentage (.916).
In addition, he earned All-USHL First-Team accolades and was selected to play in the 2005 Prospects/All-Star Game. The Lancers team MVP was named the Itech/Goalies World Goalie of the Month in both November and February.

As a rookie in 2003-04, he was named to the All-USHL Second Team and the USHL All-Rookie Team. He appeared in 35 games for Omaha, posting a 24-5-2 record along with a 2.20 GAA, a .917 saves percentage and four shutouts.
All told, in 87 regular-season games at Omaha, he posted a 60-16 mark with a 2.18 GAA and a .917 saves percentage.
The USA Hockey Junior Player of the Year Award is presented annually to the most outstanding American-born player in Junior hockey. Chosen by a blue-ribbon panel of Junior coaches and administrators, criteria for the award also includes having played for a U.S.-based Junior team.
The recipient of the Dave Peterson Goalie of the Year Award is chosen from the pool of goaltenders that annually attends the USA Hockey National Goaltenders Camp and the USA Hockey Select 16 and Select 17 Festivals.
