East Lansing, Mich. - Spartan junior goaltender Jeff Lerg (Livonia, Mich.) has earned his third consecutive CCHA Goaltender of the Week honor and fifth of the 2007-08 season, as announced by the CCHA Office on Monday, Jan. 21.
Lerg recorded his first shutout of the season (and seventh of his career) and stopped 50 of 51 shots (98 percent) in a weekend sweep at Ohio State. Lerg has allowed just three goals in his last four games and has helped MSU kill 28 consecutive penalties over seven games. Since January 1, MSU is 4-0-2, the third-longest unbeaten streak in the country.
The junior will discuss the accomplishment on CSTV's "Tuesday at the Rink" chat on USCHO.com on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Fans can submit their questions for Lerg online tomorrow until 2 p.m.
The Spartans, ranked No. 5 and No. 6 in this week's national polls, prepare to take on top-ranked Michigan this weekend in a home-and-home series. The teams play Friday in Ann Arbor, and again on Saturday in East Lansing. Gametime each evening is 7:35 p.m., and both will be televised on FSN Detroit.
