ACC-Big Ten Clash Lineups & Schedule
EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State wrestling team heads to Chapel Hill, N.C., to compete in the ACC-Big Ten Clash this Saturday, Nov. 15. The Spartans will face off against North Carolina, North Carolina State and No. 21 Virginia, the same three teams they saw in last season's Clash.
The trip to Chapel Hill will mark the Spartans' second trip to the Clash and the team's first dual-meet action of the season.
Last season, MSU defeated UNC, 21-15, and NC State, 23-15, but dropped the dual with Virginia, 29-10, to leave with a 2-1 record. The Spartans hold a 5-2-1 record all-time against the ACC.
MSU will look to improve upon its early-season success after collecting 25 medals over its first two tournaments, including three title-winners last weekend at the MSU Open.
LAST WEEK
Senior Rex Kendle, junior Franklin Gomez and sophomore Anthony Jones Jr. took the 165, 133 and 157-pound titles, respectively, at the MSU Open on Sunday, Nov. 9. Kendle and Gomez took home titles in the Open division, while Jones won his in the Freshman/Sophomore division.
The Spartans also had nine other medal-winners, including three who finished in the top three in their weight class.
Over 500 wrestlers competed, with close to 40 universities across the country sending representatives to East Lansing.
SPARTANS IN THE POLLS
Putting together five-straight victories to capture the MSU Open title at 165 and boosting his season record to 8-1 was good enough for Kendle to jump to 14th in this week's USA Today/NWCA/InterMat rankings.
Kendle joins Gomez in the polls, who is currently ranked third in the country at 133. Gomez began his season with a 4-0 record and the MSU Open title in the 133-pound class.
Gomez was ranked No. 2 in the country by Amateur Wrestling News, WIN Magazine and the Wrestling Report in their preseason rankings.
UP NEXT
The Spartans have a week off from competition before traveling to State College, Pa., on Sunday, Nov. 30, for the Penn State Open.
