Gomez Earns Top National Ranking

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State junior Franklin Gomez reached No. 1 in five different media outlets' weekly individual wrestling rankings for the week of Dec. 9. Gomez holds the top spot among wrestlers in the 133-pound weight class according to InterMat/NWCA/NWMA, Amateur Wrestling News, RevWrestling, The Wrestling Report and Wrestling International Newsmagazine.
Gomez is 8-0 on the season, with four wins coming en route to his second MSU Open title. He defeated No.13-ranked Kyle Hutter in the title match, taking a 10-3 decision. He is also 4-0 in dual-match play, outscoring his opponents 35-13.
Gomez last held the No. 1 ranking on the week of March 12 after winning the 2008 Big Ten Championship.
