East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State sophomore Lee Reimer (Landmark, Manitoba) is the CCHA Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the CCHA office on Monday, Oct. 31.
Reimer had a hat trick and a five-point night in Saturday's win over Robert Morris (6-2), which came on the heels of a two-assist effort in Friday's 5-2 victory. Reimer's seven-point, +7 effort is far and away his career best for a single weekend's offensive output. Reimer and his linemates combined for nine goals and 14 assists (23 points) on the weekend, and were a +22.
Reimer had a 2-5-7 scoring line as a freshman last year, and with his five-point night on Saturday, almost eclipsed it in one game. In eight games this season, he is now at 5-6-11 (+6).
Reimer's Saturday hat trick was the first of the season for the Spartans, and the first since Torey Krug scored three times in a 4-3 overtime victory over Michigan at Munn last January. Krug and Reimer are the only two active Spartan players with hat tricks.
Reimer had his second multiple-goal game of the season, and his career - he had a pair of goals, including the overtime game-winner, against Air Force in the Ice Breaker Tournament (Oct. 7-8), where he was a member of the All-Tournament Team.
Reimer's five points on Saturday was the first five-point effort for a Spartan since Jim Slater had five in a 7-3 win over Western Michigan on Oct. 25, 2003. He and Mike Merrifield (2g, 2a) gave MSU its first game with two players having at least two goals since January of 2008, an 8-2 win over Lake Superior (Tim Crowder and Mike Ratchuk).
Reimer and the Spartans will enjoy a bye week in the schedule, and will return to action on Nov. 11-12 at Western Michigan.
