East Lansing, Mich. - Junior defenseman Torey Krug (Livonia, Mich.) has been named the CCHA Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, February 06 after helping his Spartan squad to a sweep of No. 10 Ohio State on the road last weekend.
Krug had a 2-3-5 scoring line, with the game-tying goal on Friday and the game-winner on Saturday, as MSU swept No. 10 Ohio State in Columbus. Krug was the game's No. 1 star each night, helped reignite MSU's power play (scored 2 of MSU's three PP markers on the weekend) and anchored a Spartan penalty kill that was 14-of-14 in the two games against the Buckeyes.
On the season, Krug is second on the team in scoring (8-16-24), and ranks fifth nationally among defensemen in points and ninth among blueliners in points per game. He is tied for 10th nationally (and fourth among defensemen nationally) at a +17.
Krug and the Spartans are preparing for a huge showdown this week with No. 4 Michigan. The teams will play on Friday (7:30 p.m.) at Munn Ice Arena, then will play the annual game against the Wolverines on Saturday at Joe Louis Arena.
