Spartans Prepare for First Spring Stroke Play Tournament

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's golf team has spent the spring break week in Georgia and Florida, in preparation of this weekend's Seminole Intercollegiate at Southwood Golf Club in Tallahassee. The three-day, 54-hole event, which marks the first stroke play tournament of the spring for the team, begins for the Spartans on Friday morning at 8:24 a.m. ET.
"The guys have worked hard and are looking forward to the first stroke play event of the spring," said Spartan head coach Casey Lubahn. "This will be a good test as we head into the heart of our schedule. Our qualifying has sharpened us and got us back into our competitive mindset which should help this weekend."
In the competitive lineup for the Spartans this weekend will be senior Chris Mory, juniors Dan Ellis, Dave Ellis and Matthew Moseley, and freshman McCormick Clouser.
In this year's Seminole Intercollegiate field along with MSU and the tournament host Florida State, is Arkansas State, Boston College, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Florida Atlantic, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Jacksonville, James Madison, Kennesaw State, Mercer, Michigan State, Mississippi State, North Carolina, South Florida, Toledo and Troy.
The Spartans are looking to build off of a successful fall season, which saw four-top-5 finishes in five events, including tying for first in the Georgetown Intercollegiate, the last event in the fall. Dan Ellis led MSU all fall, posting a 72.8 scoring averaging and placing in the top-15 in all five events, including three top-5 showings. Mory was second with a 73.4 mark, having three top-10 individual finishes. Moseley (2), Dave Ellis (1) and Clouser (1) all also had a top-10 event.
