EAST LANSING - Michigan State junior forward Matt Berry was named the Big Ten's First Star of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday, March 18. Berry helped MSU earn a series split with fifth-ranked Wisconsin by scoring three goals last weekend.
Berry scored twice, including one on the power play, in MSU's 5-4 overtime win over the Badgers last Friday. The native of Canton, Mich., added another power-play goal in the Spartans' 4-3 loss on Saturday.
Berry is currently tied for fourth in the Big Ten with eight goals in conference play. Six of his 10 goals this season have come on the man-advantage, which ranks fourth in the league.
The weekly conference honor is the first of Berry's career. The last Spartan to be named the Big Ten's First Star of the Week was Jake Hildebrand on Jan. 21.
