Minney Named Big Ten Second Star of the Week

EAST LANSING - Michigan State junior goaltender Ed Minney has been named the Big Ten's Second Star of the Week, it was announced by the conference on Tuesday. The weekly conference honor is the first of Minney's career.
Minney recorded the first shutout of his career in backstopping the Spartans to a 3-0 victory over Michigan on the road last Friday. The Wind Gap, Pennsylvania, native made 24 saves in the win as he became the first MSU goaltender since Jeff Lerg in January 2008 to blank the Wolverines at Yost Ice Arena.
The following night, Minney made 23 stops in a 2-2 tie and shootout loss to the Wolverines.
For the weekend, Minney posted a .959 save percentage and 0.96 goals-against average as the Spartans took four of six points on the weekend.
Minney and the Spartans return to action Feb. 3-4 when they host Wisconsin at Munn Ice Arena.
