Junior forward Taro Hirose was named the Big Ten's Second Star of the Week on Tuesday after a four-point weekend against Minnesota. Hirose had an assist in the opener and then put together his fourth three-point game of the season in the Spartans' come-from-behind 4-2 win. The Calgary native spurred the comeback by scoring MSU's first goal late in the second period, and then set up the tying goal 1:11 later. Hirose drew the primary assist on Brody Stevens' eventual game-winning goal.
Hirose ranks third in the country and the Big Ten in points (19) and leads the conference and is tied for second in the nation in assists (13). He enters this weekend on a three-game point streak (1-4--5) and has points in nine of 12 games this season.
Career Numbers Piling Up
Taro Hirose is averaging just over a point per game in his career with 85 points in 82 career games. With 61 career assists, Hirose has surpassed the assist totals of several of the highest-producing Spartans of the 2000s, including Bryan Lerg (60a, 169 GP 2004-08); David Booth (60a, 134 GP 2002-06) and Jeff Petry (58a, 118 GP 2007-10). Hirose's 61 helpers are the most by a Spartan since Chris Mueller's 62 in 166 career games from 2004-08.
Since the beginning of 2017-18, he has more multi-point games (17) than games without a point (12).

Khodorenko's Scoring Touch
Patrick Khodorenko is on one of the best scoring streaks of his career and his team-leading nine goals on the season are tied for fourth nationally and second in the Big Ten. Khodorenko has a goal in each of the last four games and five points total over the stretch to match his career-best scoring streak.
His nine goals on the season are just four shy of his previous career high of 13 from last year and rank fourth nationally and second in the Big Ten.
The native of Walnut Creek, California, who played for Danton Cole with the USNTDP has found a good amount of success on the power play as his five goals on the man-advantage lead the Big Ten and is second most in the nation. Fourteen of his 29 career goals have come on the power play.
Khodorenko was the Big Ten First Star of the Week on Nov. 6 for the first time in his career after his four-point game (3g, 1a) on Nov. 2 in a win over Ferris State.

DeRidder received the most offensive support of his young career as the Spartans scored four goals. MSU scored two or fewer goals in three of his four previous starts.
Osburn Showing His Age

Rookie Dennis Cesana is fifth among all rookies in the Big Ten with seven points (1g, 6a), which is second among freshmen defensemen. The native of Providence, R.I., who led all defensemen in the AJHL in points (75) last season, has two multi-point games and scored his first-career goal on Oct. 26 in a win over No. 8 Cornell.

Stevens Making an Impact
Sophomore Brody Stevens has already equaled his point production through 11 games this season. The 5-11, 191 pound forward had two goals and two assists in 22 games last season, while producing three goals and one assist so far this year. Two of Stevens' goals have come in victories, including his first career game-winning goal on Nov. 24 at Minnesota.
In all 11 games in which Stevens has appeared, he has played alongside Tommy Apap and senior Brennan Sanford.
