EAST LANSING, Mich. Â‑ Michigan State men's soccer continues its four-match homestand on Sunday, Aug. 26, hosting Tulsa at DeMartin Stadium at 1 p.m.Â
Both teams won their season openers with the Spartans stopping South Florida, and Tulsa beating No. 21 Michigan, 2-1, in Ann Arbor on Friday night. The Big Ten teams and the American Athletic Conference squads will switch opponents for Sunday's battles.
"Well two teams coming off of big wins, Tulsa beating Michigan 2-1 tonight. You know they're very good, very good possession. Tom (McIntosh) does a really good job of coaching them, so it'll be a tough game. It'll be who can show depth; it'll be tough to bounce back in less than 48 hours. It'll be a very good game, very tough and hopefully we can build upon tonight's win," MSU head coach Damon Rensing said.
The Spartans won the season opener when freshman forward Farai Mutatu's header came off a corner kick by senior midfielder Hunter Barone in the 87th minute gave MSU the only score of the game. Mutatu soared above the defender and heading it into the back corner of the net, past sprawling USF keeper Harrison Devinish-Meares.
MSU won its home opener for the sixth-straight season, getting a clean sheet by senior goalkeeper Jimmy Hague to start the season and pick up right where he left off last season. It was Hague's 19th career shutout, which ties him for fifth on the Spartans' career shutout list, matching him with Jason Tillman (2003-06) and Gary Wilkinson (1974-76).
Due to an event at the Breslin Center, parking will be limited. Fans are encouraged to park at the IM West (62 West). Â Parking is also available at the Kellogg Center and the Ramp 7, near the 1855 Place off of Harrison Road.
