
Spartans Set For Clash With Wolverines On Friday

EAST LANSING, Mich. --Â Michigan State welcomes in-state rival Michigan to Jenison Field House on Friday, January 18 for a 7:00 p.m. dual. Michigan enters Friday with a 6-0 overall record and a 2-0 mark in the Big Ten conference. Last week, Michigan defeated Illinois by a 28-10 final. Friday marks the 111th meeting between the two sides, dating back t the 1921-22 season. Overall, Michigan owns a 70-35-5 advantage over the Spartans in the overall tally and has won each of the last seven duals between the two.

FOLEY LEADING THE CHARGE
With a 21-1 record as a true sophomore, Rayvon Foley is on pace to best his win total of 28 from the 2017-18 season with at least 11 events to go in his second year. Foley rattled off 15 consecutive wins to start the season before falling to No. 4-ranked Nick Piccininni of Oklahoma State in the championship round of the Reno Tournament of Champions in December. Since being handed his first loss of the season, Foley has won six consecutive bouts, including four with bonus points (two tech fall, two major decision). On Friday, Foley will face Michigan's Drew Mattin, whom he holds a 3-1 advantage over in their college careers. Mattin took the first meeting between the two, but Foley has won each of the last three.
SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES
Michigan is unbeaten in duals this season with an overall record of 6-0 in addition to a 2-0 mark in the Big Ten. At 125 pounds, Drew Mattin and Rayvon Foley have a history with one another, with Foley holding a 3-1 advantage over Mattin to date. Michigan boasts two of the best in the country and 133 and 141 pounds with Stevan Micic who moved up to No. 1 in the rankings this week, and Kanen Storr who ranks No. 5 at 141 pounds. Micic is a two-time All-American and was the NCAA runner-up last season. The Wolverines will send out either Malik Amine or Ben Lamantia at 149 pounds. Amine defeated the Spartans' Austin Eicher in their only meeting last season. Alec Panatelo has returned for Michigan after missing time earlier in the season and made the move back up to 157 pounds against Illinois last week. Logan Massa, Myles Amine and Mason Parris round out the ranked wrestlers for Michigan with each appearing in the top 10. Mason Parris had his redshirt removed two weeks ago and is 3-0 in duals since then. JT Correll is the probable starter at 184 pounds rather than Jelani Embree who is 9-3 overall and 3-0 in duals at 184 pounds this season.
