EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's and women's swimming teams brought home second-place finishes from the 2019 House of Champions. The men finished second behind the University of Cincinnati with 1537 points, and the women had 1426.5 points to finish behind the University of Cincinnati.
Â
"Wrapping up we are pretty happy with the results. Winning that last relay for the men was pretty good and they had some good splits," said head coach Matt Gianiodis. "Kasey Venn had a great swim on the 200 breaststroke and so did the two others girls in there with here. Payton Woods winning the 100 free was pretty cool and I was impressed with Michael Schwers in the 200 fly."
Â
In the 100 freestyle, senior Payton Woods claimed first with a time of 44.27, while junior Aidan Farley finished third, clocking a time of 44.41.
Â
Freshman Kasey Venn took the victory in the 200 breaststroke, 2:15.07, and junior Abbey Neveling took third, touching the pad at 2:15.85.
Â
The men's 400 freestyle relay took a first-place finish from Farley, Woods, Nehemiah Mork and Kevin Mills, with a time of 2:56.06.
Â
Both coming away with second-place finishes were senior Michael Schwers in the 200 butterfly, 1:46.47, and freshman Sophia Balow in the 1650 freestyle, 16:49.14.
On the diving board this weekend, junior Amanda Ling took second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter with scores of 249.80 and 254.65, respectively. Sophomore Ari Wolfson finished third in the 3-meter (287.15).
Â
"It was a good weekend and we get to compete in the US Open in a couple of weeks. We'll get to enjoy this week with Thanksgiving and then we'll be right back at it."
The Spartans return to competition on Wednesday, Dec. 4-7 at the US Open in Atlanta, Georgia.
