EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's tennis opens its 2020 dual slate on Saturday, Jan. 11 with a matchup against Toledo at 11 a.m. inside the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
"We are excited to open the 2020 season this Saturday against Toledo," said MSU tennis head coach Gene Orlando. " We have a young team, but a team that I believe will grow and improve a lot over the course of the season. Toledo will be a tough opponent. They always play with a lot of passion and we will have to be on our game to prevail."
About the Spartans
The Spartans return six players from last season's team. Juniors John Carlin, Josh Mukherjee and Jack Winkler and sophomores Carson Gates, Anthony Pero and Nick Willams return and are joined by freshmen Jarreau Campbell, Drew Keene and Kazuki Matsuno. Carlin, a native of Ft. Myers, Fla., led the Spartans in fall action, compiling eight singles wins in four fall tournaments. Sophomore Anthony Pero compiled a 3-1 record at the Farnsworth Ivy-Plus tournament in Princeton, New Jersey, and added four doubles wins with Gates and Carlin. Matsuno, from Hoffman Estates, Illinois, led the freshmen with seven singles wins, including a 3-1 at the Bayliss Invite in South Bend, Ind. to begin the fall slate. Matsuno paired with three different teammates in fall doubles action. Gates ended his fall strong, combining for four wins at Big Ten Indoors in Lincoln, Nebraska. MSU is led by head coach Gene Orlando in his 29th season, and assistant coach Harry Jadun and former MSU tennis player Brett Forman as volunteer assistant.

The Rockets are led by junior Filip Zupancic with 13 combined wins in the fall, including an 8-5 mark in singles play.
