The Simmons-Harvey Invitational will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State track & field continues the indoor season on Saturday at the Simmons-Harvey Invitational, hosted by Michigan at the U-M Indoor Track Facility. Other competing teams include Michigan and Ohio State.
Â
This will be the Spartans' first return to competition following the semester break, due to inclement weather last weekend causing MSU to be unable to travel to the Wolverine Invitational.
Â
In the only meet of the indoor season thus far, five Spartans earned first-place finishes at the GVSU Holiday Open on Dec. 6. Brooke Bogan (60m dash), Jaiden Paris (60m hurdles), Kayli Johnson (shot put), Rebecca Mammel (weight throw) and Trevor Stephenson (pole vault) finished first in their respective events.
Â
"Both of these teams have depth at a lot of different positions, so I think we'll find competition in every event," Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Walt Drenth said. "Ohio State has won Big Ten Championships recently with both genders, so seeing what the best teams look like is pretty important for us to get a point of reference. What we are and how we continue to work forward to being considered one of those best teams."
Â
The first track preliminary events will begin at 10:15 a.m., with the men's and women's 60m hurdles and 60m dash preliminary rounds.
Â
Field events and finals of the track events will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network beginning at 11 a.m. with the 60m hurdles and 60m dash finals on the track and various field events. Competition will continue throughout the early afternoon and closing with the 4x400m relay for both the men and women.
Â
A group of distance runners will be making their first appearances of the indoor track season and will transition from the cross country course to the track.
Â
"I would hope that for most of them we hit the ground not far from where we left it; not only in the fall but last spring," Drenth said. "My guess is we're going to see some pretty good performances and a high-level of competitiveness."
