Junior James Piot took sixth place at 10-over-par 226 (73-76-77) after a 5-over-par 77 in Tuesday's final round at The Concession. It was the fourth top-10 finish of the season for Piot.
"That's a couple of top-10 finishes for James this past week – he's our leader on and off the course," Spartan head coach Casey Lubahn said. "He's bummed he didn't win, but he was steady all week."
Brendan McDougall of High Point took medalist honors at 1-over-par 217.
Bradley Smithson had the best finish of his freshman season, tying for 12th place at 14-over-par 230. He shot a 2-over-par 74 that included three birdies on Tuesday.
"For a freshman on a very challenging golf course, I thought he hung in there nicely," Lubahn said. "He made some big numbers, but he also made a lot of birdies, which is good to see."
Smithson finished the tournament with 10 birdies – third most of any player.
Andrew Walker had the lowest round of the day of any Spartan with an even-par 72. Like Smithson, he also recorded three birdies. He ended the tournament 16-over-par 232 (78-82-72) and tied for 19th place.
Landon Ernst finished the tournament 27-over-par 243 (78-80-85) and Troy Taylor II one shot back at 28-over-par 244 (80-83-81).
Zach Rosendale played as an individual and tied for 24th place at 18-over-par 234 (78-82-74).
The tournament at The Concession marked the fifth consecutive week of completion for the Spartans, who will next be in action in April.
"We played a lot lately and haven't handled it as well as we have in the last few years," Lubahn said. "I thought we learned some things this week and saw some stuff today that showed some promise. All we can do is get better and try to make a run in April; we just have to get five guys going in the same direction. We need to take a little down time and get back to work."
