Also - head to our instagram page (MichStVB) to see our players' "Stay Home, Stay Safe" playlists - we all need a little musical inspiration these days!
What is something unique about your hometown? Im from Kalamazoo, Michigan. I went to Kalamazoo Central High School where Derek Jeter (MLB) and Greg Jennings (NFL) also went.
Sports I played growing up other than volleyball: I played a lot of sports growing up. I started with Karate (Jujitsu) when I was 3, then I wrestled, did gymnastics, played football, then volleyball, basketball, beach volleyball, softball, ran track, and played soccer.
My favorite sport to watch: My favorite sport to watch is probably basketball.
My favorite volleyball memory: My favorite volleyball memory is my very first college game against Tennessee at Tennessee.
What was your favorite subject when you were growing up? My favorite subject in school growing up was definitely gym. If gym doesn’t count, then I’ll go with English.
What is your major at MSU? My major at MSU is Human Development and Family Studies with a minor in Youth and Society. I’ve always loved working with kids, but I didn’t want to be a teacher, so HDFS has allowed me to discover different career paths that involve my interests.
Do you have a nickname? My nickname on the team is T. When I first got to State no one could remember if it was “Tuh-lia” or “Tal-ia” so I was like “Just call me T.”
Who has been the most important or influential person in your life? I could never choose between either of my parents for the most influential person in my life. Both my Mom and my Dad have played such important roles in my life and both of them have made me who I am today. My Mom is definitely my more analytical and logical side, while my Dad is my spontaneous and impulsive side. However, I get my competitiveness from both of them.
What is the best locker room prank you have ever seen? I wish I could think of a locker room prank. We don’t really do them, but I think we should start. Maybe I’ll start it when we get back on campus.
What is your favorite Big Ten city to visit? What has been your favorite non-conference road trip in your MSU career? My favorite Big Ten city to visit is probably Evanston, Illinois. Northwestern backs up onto Lake Michigan and it’s super pretty. My favorite non-conference road trip so far was probably Charleston.
If you had one family member to spend a week with on an all-expenses paid vacation, who would it be? Where would you go? If I had to choose one family member to spend a week with on an all-expenses paid vacation, I would definitely choose my brother, Alika. We would probably go out of the country somewhere. Maybe Australia to see all the cool animals and go surfing.
Your teammates are inspirational people in their own right. Tell me about a teammate (current or former) that has inspired you? When I think of inspirational teammate, I automatically think of Sam Mclean. Sam was always so supportive of me no matter what I was going through. Through my injury and even before she always checked on me to make sure I was doing okay. I miss Sam’s leadership and positive energy, but I know she’s going to be a great doctor!
