Spartans Finish in 12th Place at Tar Heel Invitational

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's women's golf team shot a 4-over par 292 in the final round on Sunday and finished in 12th place among 19 teams at the Tar Heel Invitational, played at the Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The Spartans finished the three-day, 54-hole tournament with a combined total of 9-over par 873 (296-285-292).
Wake Forest topped the field with a score of 17-under par 847, 10 shots ahead of second place Clemson (7-under par 857). Virginia Tech placed third at 5-under par 859, Alabama was fourth (2-under par 862) and Kentucky and Duke tied for fifth place at 1-under par 863.

Sophomore Leila Raines (Galena, Ohio/Olentangy Berlin) was MSU's top finisher, firing a 2-under par 70 on Sunday to finish at 1-over par 217 for the tournament, tying for 29th place.
Senior Valery Plata (Floridablanca, Colombia/Colegio La Quinta del Puente) and freshman Brooke Biermann (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) tied for 40th place at 3-over par 219. Plata rounded out her weekend with a 2-over par 74, while Biermann had the second-best round of the day with a 1-under par 71.
Sophomore Valentina Rossi (Rosario, Argentina) tied for 52nd place at 6-over par 222 and junior Nina Rissi (Barcelona, Spain) tied for 75th place at 12-over par 228.
Senior Haylin Harris (Carmel, Ind./Carmel), playing as an individual, tied for 21st place at 1-under par 215, including a final round of 2-over par 74.
Michigan State closes out its fall season at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C. from Friday, Oct. 29 to Sunday, Oct. 31.
