Spartans Tied for Sixth Place at The Landfall Tradition

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's women's golf team shot a 5-over par 293 and stands in a tie for sixth place among 18 teams after the first round of play at The Landfall Tradition, being played at the Country Club of Landfall's Pete Dye Course in Wilmington, N.C.
The three-day event continues on Saturday, Oct. 30 and concludes on Sunday, Oct. 31 with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start. The Landfall Tradition is being played on the par-72, 6,150-yard course.

The top nine teams in the field of 18, which includes 13 teams ranked among the top-50 in the latest Golfstat rankings, are all within six shots of each other.
Michigan leads the field at 1-under par 289, with Virginia in second place at 2-over par 290 and South Carolina, Texas and Clemson all tied for third place at 3-over par 291. The Spartans are tied for sixth place with UCF at 5-over par 293.
Sophomore Valentina Rossi (Rosario, Argentina) shot a 2-under par 70 to lead the Spartans and is tied for fifth place in the field of 90 golfers. Rossi posted three birdies on the back nine.
Seniors Valery Plata (Floridablanca, Colombia / Colegio La Quinta del Puente) and Haylin Harris (Carmel, Ind. / Carmel) are tied for 27th place with scores of 2-over par 74, while sophomore Leila Raines (Galena, Ohio / Olentangy Berlin) is one shot back, tied for 45th place at 3-over par 75.
Freshman Brooke Biermann (Wildwood, Mo. / Lafayette) shot a 12-over par 84 and is in 93rd place.
