Women’s Golf in Sixth Place at Windy City Classic

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's women's golf team shot a 16-over par 304 in the first round and was through 12 holes in sixth place among 15 teams before play was halted due to darkness in the second round of the Windy City Classic, hosted by Northwestern University. The two-day, 54-hole event is being played at Westmoreland Country Club (par-72, 6,457 yards) in Wilmette, Ill.
The second round will be finished on Tuesday morning starting at 8:30 a.m., with the third round to follow.

Stanford leads the field at 7-over par, with Texas two shots back at 9-over par, Florida third at 16-over par, Virginia fourth at 19-over par and Oregon fifth at 28-over par. The Spartans are in sixth place at 30-over par, two shots behind Oregon.
Senior Valery Plata (Floridablanca, Colombia/Colegio La Quinta del Puente) leads the Spartans, standing in fifth place in the field of 84 golfers par at even par. She shot a 2-over par 74 in the first round and was through 12 holes before the day was finished.
Freshman Brooke Biermann (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) is tied for 12th place at 5-over par, including a 4-over par 76 in the morning round.
Sophomore Valentina Rossi (Rosario, Argentina) is tied for 48th place at 11-over par. She finished with a 3-over par 75 in the first round.
Freshman Katie Lu (Plainsboro, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro North) is tied for 65th place at 14-over par and senior Haylin Harris (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) is tied for 76th place at 21-over par.
The second round will be finished on Tuesday morning starting at 8:30 a.m., with the third round to follow.
