EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State volleyball senior Rebecka Poljan will return in 2022 for one more season donning the green and white. The middle blocker announced on Friday that she will use her final year of eligibility to remain in East Lansing.
"I can't wait to get to work this spring and take the court for my final season," Poljan said. "The past four years, the Lord has blessed me beyond belief by allowing me to live out my dream as a Spartan. Thank you to the fans for your unwavering love and support from the second I stepped on the court. This school, these people and this team has my heart."
A mainstay for the Spartans on and off the court throughout her career, Poljan is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and was named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2021. The Bath, Michigan native will bring a wealth of leadership, experience and scoring to the Michigan State lineup in 2022. With 79 career starts and 287 sets played to her name, Poljan will be among the most experienced players in the Big Ten next season.
"We're excited that Becka is going to compete for the Spartans next year," Michigan State head coach Cathy George said. "Becka was really starting to make a name for herself nationally this past season, ranking #3 in the country in hitting percentage before she was sidelined with an injury for six weeks. She has unfinished business at Michigan State."
Poljan was on pace for a career year in 2021 before injury forced her to miss seven consecutive matches in October and eight matches overall. Career-best attacking numbers were in store for Poljan who posted 1.98 kills per set and 2.70 points per set in 63 sets played. Poljan finished her 2021 campaign with 170 points, recording 125 kills and 45 blocks. Her 14 kills against Weber State on Sept. 3 set a new single match career high.
"This extra years gives Becka an opportunity to finish her career on her own terms," George said. "Becka has been a significant part of our program both as a teammate and a player since she arrived on campus and we look forward to her getting back into the swing of things."
In addition to her play on the court, Poljan is an upstanding member of the Michigan State community. To learn more about Poljan's commitment to service, check out her Spartans All-Access feature below.
