Four in Double Figures as No. 11 Michigan State Beats Oakland, 90-78

Detroit, Mich. – Senior forward Marcus Bingham Jr. (Grand Rapids, Mich./GR Catholic Central) scored 17 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked four shots as No. 11 Michigan State put five players in double figures en route to a 90-78 win over Oakland at Little Caesars Arena Tuesday night.
Freshman guard Max Christie (Arlington Heights, Ill./Rolling Meadows) had 17 points and four rebounds, senior forward Gabe Brown (Ypsilanti, Mich./Belleville) added 14 points, four rebounds and three assists, while junior forward Malik Hall (Aurora, Ill./Sunrise Christian Academy [Kan.]) finished with 13 points and junior guard Tyson Walker (Westbury, N.Y./Christ the King/Northeastern) added 10 points and tied his career-high with 10 assists.

- The Spartans led by nine points, 44-35, at the break and pushed the lead to 13 points, 50-37, on a 3-pointer from Walker in the opening minutes of the second half.
- Oakland cut the MSU lead to 55-48 after three free throws from Jalen Moore, but a 7-2 burst from the Spartans, capped by a 3-pointer from Christie and a layup from sophomore guard A.J. Hoggard (Coatesville, Pa./Huntington Prep [W.Va.]) pushed the lead back to 12 points, 62-50, and forced a timeout.
- A 3-pointer from Brown with 10:31 to play gave MSU a 67-52 lead and the Spartans took their biggest lead of the game, 82-66, on a trey from Christie with 3:56 left in the game.
- Oakland's Trey Townsend capped a 10-2 run with a basket to cut the MSU lead to eight points, 84-76, with 2:12 left, but a dunk from Christie with a minute left pushed the margin to 88-78 as the Spartans closed out the win.
- In the first half, Christie hit a pair of 3-pointers in the opening two minutes as the Spartans raced out to an 8-0 lead but Oakland twice pulled to 21-20 on a jumper from Jamal Cain.
- MSU used a 13-2 run to push the lead to 34-22 after a layup from Hall, who scored 11 of his 13 points in the first half.
- The Golden Grizzlies pulled to within 36-35, but Bingham and Brown combined to score the final eight points of the half as MSU went into the break with a 44-35 lead.
