East Lansing, Mich -- Michigan State senior Adam Goodsir (Okemos, Mich.) has been named as a candidate for the 2021-22 Senior CLASS Award®.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as a NCAA Division I senior or graduate student and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of candidates can be found here.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Goodsir boasts a 3.75 grade point average and will graduate in May with a degree in kinesiology, with a double minor in entrepreneurship and innovations and health promotions. He was the 2019-20 recipient of the Harold and Raynor Shnider Office of the Provost Award, which recognizes academic performance, community involvement, and leadership ability.
Growing up in the shadows of Munn Ice Arena, Goodsir has been tremendously involved in outreach activities since enrolling at his hometown school. He has been a part of Accessible Trick or Treating for children with disabilities as well as Teams for Toys, in which each team adopts a family for Christmas. He has also participated in March is Reading Month and the MSU sled hockey clinic. A member of the Green Bandana project to promote student-athlete mental health, he has also helped organize (and has garnered the most donations) in his team's participation in Movember to raise money for men's health initiatives. This year, the Spartans raised nearly $3,000.
A Dean's List student in five of his six semesters, he has twice earned Academic All-Big Ten and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar accolades. He prefers to lead by example and is well respected by those in the MSU and surrounding community as he embodies the qualities of a total student-athlete.
The 20 candidates will be narrowed to ten finalists later in the season. Those ten names will then be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character, and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2022 NCAA Men's Frozen Four® in April.
