East Lansing, Mich. -- Michigan State freshman Sarah Franklin (Lake Worth, Fla.) has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, as announced by the Conference office on Monday, Feb. 15.
Â
Franklin continues to announce her arrival to the Big Ten volleyball world, as she averaged 4.50 kills per set in the two matches against Maryland last weekend, both 3-1 Spartan victories. She put down 16 kills and had 11 digs for her second career double-double on Friday, then followed that up with a 20-kill, three-block, three-ace performance in which she hit .395 on Saturday.Â
Â
Franklin has been MSU's top kill producer in five of the six matches so far this season, and she's had double-digit kills in each of those contests. She ranks third in the league and 28th nationally in attempts (11.77 per set) seventh in the B1G in kills per set (3.82). She is averaging 2.18 digs per set as a six-rotation player, second on the team behind libero Jamye Cox.Â
Â
Michigan State has three games on tap this week, all at Jenison Field House. Kicking it off is a rescheduled matchup with Michigan on Wednesday (7 pm), before hosting No. 1 Wisconsin for a pair of games over the weekend. Saturday's game vs. the Badgers will air live on Big Ten Network at 2:30 pm, and Sunday's game is a 3:30 pm first serve.Â
