MSU and Michigan will face-off indoors in Brighton.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State men's soccer will hit the road to take on in-state rival Michigan on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. The game will be played indoors at the Legacy Center in Brighton, Michigan.
Both Michigan State and Michigan have decided to defer the playing of the Big Bear trophy until the fall of 2021.
In the season opener, the Spartans fell to Rutgers, 2-0, in a home game played at Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Michigan. MSU debuted a very different lineup than played in the final game of the season in November of 2019. Only five players started today that started MSU's last game against Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament on Nov. 10, 2019, including Hunter Morse, Jack Beck, Nick Stone, Michael Miller and Farai Mutatu.
Freshmen Vedad Kovac and Greyson Mercer joined transfers Louis Sala and Connor Brazil in the starting lineup for the Spartans against the Scarlet Knights. Sala comes to MSU from Northern Illinois, while Brazil transferred from Louisville.
Michigan captured its season opener with a 4-1 win over Northwestern on Feb. 19. The Wolverines scored all four goals in the second half with four different players finding the back of the net.
Last season, the injury-depleted Spartans dropped a 2-0 game to Michigan in Ann Arbor on Oct. 29. The Wolverines also ended Michigan State's season with a 2-1 loss in the Big Ten Tournament. Gianni Ferri provided the scoring in for MSU.
The Spartans will then remain on the road to take on Penn State on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m.
