Spartans Sixth in Postponed Opening Round of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate

CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina – The opening round of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate was cut short on Saturday in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, due to rain. The Michigan State men's golf team nearly completed the opening round, getting through 16 holes before the poor weather forced the halting of play. The Spartans are 1-over-par, just four shots back of second place Maryland. Host North Carolina was one of our teams to complete its entire first round and leads the tournament at 12-under-par 276 at the UNC Finley Golf Course.

Campbell completed its opening round and is 2-under-par 286 and in third place, while Arkansas State also completed all 18 holes and is a shot behind in fourth place.

Andrew Walker was leading the way for MSU when play was halted as he's 2-under-par with two holes to play and tied for eighth place. James Piot is tied for 12^th place as he's 1-under-par with two holes to go when play resumes on Sunday morning.

August Meekhof has just one hole to play and is 1-over-par and tied for 27^th place. Troy Taylor II is 3-over-par through 16 holes, while Bradley Smithson is also 3-over-par with one hole to go.

Play is scheduled to resume on Sunday morning.
