EAST LANSING -- Andy Hosler has joined the Michigan State hockey program as the team's athletic trainer. Hosler, who earned his master's from Michigan State, returns to East Lansing after 14 years with the Nashville Predators, including serving as the organization's head athletic trainer for the last eight seasons.
"I am extremely excited and eager to be back at Michigan State University," Hosler said. "It is an absolute honor to become a part of such a prestigious program and to have the chance to be a part of this great staff. The standard of care that was developed here by Dave Carrier is one that I can hope to continue. Dave was a great mentor of mine during my career and to this day; he is a legend here at MSU. I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to continue that standard. I look forward to being part of the athletic training staff and contributing to the success of this University."
"We're excited to have Andy join our program," MSU hockey head coach Danton Cole said. "His great medical background and NHL experience help make him a tremendous fit for Spartan Hockey. He has jumped right in and it's great to have him back in East Lansing."
Hosler has been a certified athletic trainer for the last 18 years, 16 of which have been spent in professional hockey.
In his role as head athletic trainer with the Predators, Hosler managed the health and rehab of players throughout the Nashville organization. He served as Nashville's assistant athletic trainer for six seasons from 2007-13 before assuming the head role in the 2013-14 campaign.
Prior to joining the Predators, the Monroe, Mich., native spent two seasons as the head athletic trainer for the ECHL's Utah Grizzlies. Hosler earned a master's degree in kinesiology at Michigan State while serving as a graduate assistant, working with the Spartan wrestling and football teams during the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons. Hosler earned his bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University, working across the athletic department spectrum from gymnastics to football.
Hosler is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and certified Level 1 Sports Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting. He also holds a membership through the Professional Hockey Athletic Trainer's Society.
Hosler and his wife, Elizabeth, have two sons, Henry and Fritz.
