Spartans in Seventh Through Two Rounds at the Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, South Carolina – The Michigan State women's golf team is 2-over-par 578 (291-287) after two rounds of play on Monday at the Cougar Classic hosted by the College of Charleston in Hanahan, South Carolina. Georgia, which is one of 11 teams in the field of 17 that was selected to compete in last year's NCAA Regionals, leads the tournament at Yeamans Hall Club at 16-under-par 560.

Sophomore Valentina Rossi leads the Spartans at 3-under-par 141. She shot an even-par 72 in round one and followed it up with a 3-under-par 69, which was the lowest round of the day by any Spartan.
Senior Valery Plata is tie for 31st at 1-over-par 145 (74-71), while fellow classmate Haylin Harris is tied for 45th place at 3-over-par 147 (74-73).
Sophomore Leila Raines began the day with a 1-under-par 71, then shot a 5-over-par 77 in the afternoon and is 4-over-par 148 and tied for 51st place. Freshman Brooke Biermann is also 4-over-par 148 (74-74).
Brooke Matthews of Arkansas leads the field individually at 17-under-par 127.
The Spartans will tee off in the final round at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday.
