EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State men's and women's track & field teams will be sending squads to two meets this weekend, as the jumps and sprints teams will be taking part in the Rod McCravy Memorial at the University of Kentucky, while the distance and throws teams are set to head to the Indiana University Relays. Both meets are being held over two days, Friday through Saturday.
Â
MSU will also see graduate student Morgan Beadlescomb travel to New York City to compete at Saturday's 114th Millrose Games, running in the men's 3000m race at one of the world's premier track & field events (More information on the Millrose Games can be found here).
Â
The Spartans are coming off back-to-back weeks in Ann Arbor, as the Simmons-Harvey Invitational featured Beadlescomb winning the men's one-mile with a PR time of 4:01.22 and senior Jenna Magness taking first in the women's one-mile at a 4:41.31 PR time. MSU followed it up at the Michigan Invitational by having senior Sophia Franklin break the school record in the indoor pole vault as part of five Spartans winning their respective events, with Franklin eclipsing her previous school record by reaching a height of 4.27m on her jump. The Michigan Invitational also had graduate transfer Quiara Wheeler winning the women's weight throw event in her Spartan debut at a distance of 20.73m, while sophomore Avery Budz won the women's high jump (1.73m PR), senior Trevor Stephenson won the men's pole vault (5.25m) and freshman Noah Sage placed first in the men's 400m (47.49).
Â
Last Saturday at the Michigan Invitational had other notable Spartan performances as well, as freshman Jalen Nelson, competing unattached, won the men's high jump at a height of 2.00m. Along with Nelson, sophomore Elizabeth Knoll placed second in the women's high jump behind Budz, senior Shakira Dancy was second in the women's 200m (24.68 PR), senior Brooke Bogan was the women's 60m dash runner-up (7.52) and junior Jaiden Paris took second in the women's 60m hurdles (8.50).
Â
Four Spartans currently have top-25 marks nationally, as Franklin's school-record 4.27m in the pole vault sits 12th in the NCAA and atop the Big Ten, while Magness' 4:41.31 one-mile time ranks No. 14 in the nation. Additionally, Stephenson's 5.25m pole vault on the men's side puts him No. 17 among NCAA leaders, and Wheeler's 20.73m weight throw lands her 24th in that event on the NCAA indoor qualifying list.
Â
Michigan State will follow up its busy weekend by heading to South Bend, Indiana on Feb. 4-5, competing at the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.
