• No. 17/18 Michigan State heads out on the road for a B1G series at No. 6/6 Penn State.  MSU trails the all-time series with the Nittany Lions by a 14-20-4 margin, and the Nittany Lions are 11-4-3 against the Spartans at Pegula Ice Arena.  The teams split each series last season, with the PSU winning the first night and MSU taking a victory in the second.  Penn State won each of their games by a two-goal margin, and MSU's wins were each one-goal affairs.  Guy Gadowsky is in his 11th season at Penn State, and is 182-154-24.  He is coaching at his third school overall, and is a combined 355-352-61 at Alaska-Fairbanks, Princeton, and PSU. Â
•  The Spartans own the third-most victories in the Big Ten (8), but own the longest winning streak (four games) and unbeaten streak (five) among B1G schools.   With its four-game winning streak, the Spartans sit atop the Big Ten standings with 14 points.  Penn State is one spot behind with 13 points.  MSU finished with 17 points in  the standings in 2021-22, and 15 in 2020-21.  Â

•  Senior Nicolas Müller is the Big Ten First Star of the Week, as announced on Tuesday by the Conference office.  Müller was the team's top scorer last weekend, with a pair of goals and two assists for four points.  Müller's 3-7-10 scoring line is his best single-season points total in his career.  He has played in 110 career games for the Spartans (9-22-31).
•  Freshman Daniel Russell had a goal and three assists in the OSU series, including the game-winner in the first game against the Buckeyes.  Russell leads the Spartans in points (15), which ranks third in the Big Ten, and his 11 assists ranks second.  He ranks 15th in points per game (1.25) and ninth in assists per game (0.92).  with a +9 rating (seventh, B1G). Â
•  Freshman Matt Basgall is second among Spartan defensemen in scoring (2-5-7).  He scored his second goal of the season on the power play against Ohio State.  Basgall leads MSU with 23 blocked shots, and is fourth in the B1G in both total blocks and blocks per game (1.92).  Â
• Dylan St. Cyr has played in 11 of MSU's 12 games this season (and all six Big Ten contests).  He leads the Big Ten with a .936 save percentage overall (fifth nationally), and is third (19th nationally) with a 2.00 GAA.  Over his career, he boasts a 2.06 GAA and .928 save percentage in 58 games, with a 33-17-3 record.  Among active Division I players, St. Cyr ranks fourth in goaltender wins (33), 13th in GAA (2.06), 14th in career saves (1,412), sixth in save percentage (.928) and fourth in shutouts (11).
