
Hall’s Basket Lifts No. 13 Michigan State Past Maryland, 65-63

College Park, Md. – Junior forward Malik Hall (Aurora, Ill./Sunrise Christian Academy [Kan.]) hit a layup with 1.9 seconds left as Michigan State beat Maryland, 65-63, at the XFinity Center on Tuesday night.
Hall scored 16 points and had four rebounds to lead the Spartans, while redshirt senior forward Joey Hauser (Stevens Point, Wis./Stevens Point/Marquette) finished with 10 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals and senior forward Marcus Bingham Jr. (Grand Rapids, Mich./GR Catholic Central) had 10 points and eight rebounds.

Michigan State improves to 17-4 overall and 8-2 in the Big Ten, while Maryland falls to 11-11 and 3-8 in league play.
Recap
· The Spartans had taken a 15-point lead early in the second half and led by nine points, 48-39, midway through the period, but the Terrapins fought back and tied the game at 61-all with 2:38 to play on a 3-pointer from Fatts Russell.
· Hall hit free throws with 2:32 to play to make it 63-61 MSU and Maryland's Donta Scott hit two with 2:20 left, tying the game at 63-all.
· After missed shots from both teams, freshman Jaden Akins (Farmington, Mich./Farmington/ Sunrise Christian Academy [Kan.]) stole the ball with 24 seconds left, setting up the final shot.
· Hall took a feed with five seconds left and drove to his right and scored over two defenders to give MSU the lead. A shot from Maryland's Fatts Russell was off the mark at the buzzer.
· Leading by 10 (35-25) at the half, the Spartans used an early 7-2 run to take a 42-27 lead on a 3-pointer from Hauser at the 17:14 mark.
· Maryland responded with an 11-0 burst and cut the margin to 42-38 on a jumper from Qudus Wahab with just under 15 minutes left.
· Free throws from junior guard Tyson Walker (Westbury, N.Y./Christ the King/Northeastern) gave MSU a 48-39 lead, capping a 6-1 spurt for the Spartans, but Maryland continued to stick around.
· The Spartans used a late run in the final minutes of the first half to take a 35-25 lead.
· Maryland tied the game at 25-all on free throws from Wahab with 4:50 left, but a jumper from Walker broke the tie and triggered a 10-0 run over the final 3:52.
· A 3-pointer from Hauser with 1:19 to play gave MSU the 10-point lead at the break.
