Spartans in Seventh Place after First Round of UCF Challenge

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's women's golf team posted a 4-under par 284 on Sunday and is in seventh place among 18 teams after the first round of play at the UCF Challenge, being held at Eagle Creek Golf Course in Orlando, Fla.
First Round Results
Playing in a field of 18 teams, with nine of the teams ranked among the top-50 in the country by Golfstat, the Spartans are in a tight group atop the leaderboard with only eight strokes difference.
Kentucky (No. 34) leads the field at 12-under par 276, with Wake Forest (No. 6) one shot back at 11-under par 277. Miami (No. 31) and Auburn (No. 12) are tied for third at 9-under par 279, Old Dominion and N.C. State are tied for fifth place at 6-under par 282 and Michigan State (No. 40) is seventh at 4-under par 284.
Michigan State has two players among the top-20, including one among the top-10 as sophomore Valentina Rossi (Rosario, Argentina) fired a 4-under par 68 and is tied for sixth place in the field of 99.
Freshman Brooke Biermann (Wildwood, Mo. / Lafayette) is tied for 19th place at 2-under par 70.
Senior Haylin Harris (Carmel, Ind. / Carmel) and junior Nina Rissi (Barcelona, Spain) are tied for 51st place at 1-over par 72 and senior Valery Plata (Floridablanca, Colombia / Colegio La Quinta del Puente) shot a 2-over par 74 and is tied for 66th place.
The Spartans will begin second round play on Monday, Feb. 7 at 8:45 a.m.
