Spartans Drop Match to Tulane at Spring Break Tournament

TEMPE, Az. - Michigan State men's tennis continued action at the Arizona State Spring Break Tournament on Saturday, falling to ranked nonconference opponent Tulane by a 4-0 margin.
The Green Wave picked up the doubles point with a pair of wins at the top two courts. Partnering up for their second match at No.1 doubles of the tournament, Jack Winkler and Nick Williams fell 6-4 in a close match with Charlie Barry and Benji Jacobson. At No. 2, Carson Gates and Max Sheldon took on Luc Hoeijmans, the match ending at 6-3 in No. 62 Tulane's favor.
In singles action, matches were played out at No. 1, 3 and 6 singles, all won by Tulane. Back in action at No. 1, Winkler won three of six points in the first set and two in the second, but ended up being defeated by Hoeijmans 6-3, 6-2. Similarly at the No. 2 court, Graydon Lair took on Luka Petrovic, battling to a 6-3, 6-2 final score. Kazuki Matsuno played in his first singles match of the tournament, falling by Tulane's Barry by a 6-1, 6-3 margin.
The No. 75-ranked Spartans (10-5) will take on Idaho on Sunday at noon ET in their final match of the tournament, held at the Kiwanis Tennis Center in Tempe. There will be no live scoring, but the match will be available to stream HERE.
