Women’s Golf in Fifth Place at Lady Buckeye Invitational

East Lansing, Mich. – Senior Valery Plata is in fifth place individually to lead the Michigan State women's golf team and the Spartans are in fifth place among 10 teams after the first day of play at the Lady Buckeye Invitational in Columbus, Ohio.
First Round Results
The Spartans posted a two-round, 36-hole score of 43-over par 619 (306-313) to stand in fifth place.
Only 14 strokes separate the top five teams, with host Ohio State leading the field at 29-over par 605, followed closely by Illinois, in second at 32-over par 608. Kent State is third at 38-over par and Maryland is in fourth place at 42-over par 618.
Plata is in fifth place in the field of 61 golfers at 5-over par 149. She posted rounds of 1-over par 73 and 4-over par 76, respectively.
Freshman Katie Lu is tied for 15th place at 10-over par 154, with back-to-back scores of 5-over par 77.
Sophomore Valentina Rossi is tied for 22nd place at 13-over par 157 and sophomore Leila Raines is tied for 32nd place at 15-over 159.
Junior Nina Rissi is tied for 41st place at 18-over par 162 and freshman Brooke Biermann is tied for 47th place at 20-over par 164.
The Spartans will tee off on Saturday morning at 8 a.m., playing alongside Maryland and Nebraska.
