
Spartans Fall at Nationally-Ranked Ohio State

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State men's tennis fell 7-0 on Sunday, April 17 to No. 2 Ohio State in a conference matched played in Columbus, Ohio.
The Buckeyes are 22-2 overall with an undefeated 7-0 mark in Big Ten action. The Spartans move to 14-12 and are 1-7 in conference matches.
Ohio State's squad features two ranked doubles teams and six players ranked in in singles by the ITA. The Buckeyes won matches over MSU at No. 1 and 3 doubles to earn the first point of the match.
The Spartans fell in straight sets in all six singles matches Sunday afternoon. Jack Winkler battled Cannon Kingsley on the top court to a 6-2, 6-3 decision. Freshman Max Sheldon went up against JJ Tracy at No. 2 singles, falling by a 6-1, 6-0 margin. The closest any MSU player came was Nick Williams on the No. 5 court when he went 6-4 in his first match against James Trotter. Trotter went on to win 6-1 in the second set to seal the match.
Ohio State won in order at courts six, three, two, four, and one with the final point decided at No. 5 singles.
The Spartans are back in action on Saturday, April 23 in their final regular-season match. MSU takes on Michigan in Ann Arbor beginning at 12 p.m.
