Junior Sarah Ladd was the pitcher of record for the Spartans, allowing three earned runs on six hits, while striking out six over 4.1 innings of work. Ladd pitched twice in the game, with freshmen Faith Guidry and Ashley Martin spelling her for 2.2 innings in-between appearances. Martin struck out three in two innings of relief, allowing four hits and one unearned run.
Michigan State had a solid day at the plate, scoring five runs on eight hits. Sophomore Alexis Barroso was 3-for-4 at the dish with an RBI while junior Camryn Wincher was 2-for-3 with a double, a hit by pitch, and two runs scored. Fifth year Caitie Ladd doubled for the Spartans while sophomore Zaquai Dumas hit her fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot.
Oakland's first four batters of the game reached base as the Golden Grizzles took an early 2-0 lead.
Dumas' home run briefly tied things up at 2-2 in the bottom of the second inning as her long ball drove in freshman Kayleigh Roper.

The Golden Grizzlies would go on to score six runs in the top of the third inning on five hits, including a three-run home run.
Michigan State cut into Oakland's lead in the home half of the third, scoring two runs. Senior Courtney Callahan led off the inning with a walk before advancing to third on a double from Wincher. An RBI single through the left side of the infield by Barroso scored Callahan. With Wincher on third, a sacrifice fly to right by Roper cut Oakland's lead to 8-4.
After Oakland added a run in the fifth, Michigan State responded with a run of its own. Wincher led the inning off with a hit by pitch before a Barroso through the left side of the infield put two on for Caitie Ladd. A double to center field from Ladd was enough to score Wincher from second to give the Spartans their fifth run of the night.
The Golden Grizzlies extended their lead to 10-5 in the seventh after a single up the middle scored Oakland's second unearned run of the evening.
UP NEXT: Michigan State travels to Ann Arbor, Michigan on Wednesday, April 6 for an intrastate rivalry game against the No. 22-ranked Michigan Wolverines.
