Michigan State Tied for Seventh After First Round at Folds of Honor

East Lansing, Mich. – Three players are among the top-25 individuals overall and Michigan State's men's golf team is tied for seventh place among 18 teams after the first round of the Folds of Honor Collegiate, being played at American Dunes Golf Course in Grand Haven, Mich.
The 18-team field features nine ranked among the top-55 programs in the country by Golfstat.
The Spartans, tied for seventh with Kansas (No. 29), shot a 7-over par 295.
Florida State (No. 23) leads the field at 1-under par 287, but just eight strokes separate the top half of the field.
Liberty is in second place at 2-over par 290, Oregon State and Illinois are tied for third place at 4-over par 292 and Arizona rounds out the top-five teams, shooting a 5-over par 293. Clemson is in sixth place at 6-over par 294, the Spartans are tied for seventh with Kansas and Grand Valley State is in ninth place at 8-over par 296.
Fifth year Troy Taylor II and junior Drew Hackett led the Spartans after the first round of play, standing in a tie for 17th place with scores of 1-over par 73, respectively.
Junior August Meekhof is one shot back and is tied for 25th place at 2-over par 74, while sophomore Ashton McCulloch is tied for 30th place at 3-over par 75.
Senior Bradley Smithson is tied for 57th place at 6-over par 78.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament runs through Wednesday, Sept. 28. The 18-team field will play 18 holes each day.
The Spartans are serving as a host for the first-time event along with The Folds of Honor, American Dunes and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Folds of Honor and the GCAA Presidential Scholar Fund.
