
Sage's Win Highlights Indoor Track Opener

BOSTON, MASS. - Four Track and Field student-athletes opened the season at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener alongside national competition Saturday at Boston University's home track, highlighted by an overall 400 win by junior Noah Sage.
Sage bested 27 other competitors in the 400m dash with a time of 47.65, the only sprinter finishing in under 48 seconds on the day. The time equals his mark from last year's Big Ten Indoor Championships, good for 11th then at the culmination of the season.
The Spartan's lone female representative at the event was grad-senior Lauren Freeland, who recorded a personal best and placed sixth in the mile race at 4:37.61. Freeland utilized what is regarded as the 'world's fastest indoor track' to improve her PR in the event by 12 seconds.
In the feature event of the night that capped off the season opening meet, the men's 10-heat 5,000m run, Michigan State was represented by grad-senior Carlee Stimpfel and sophomore Riley Hough. Hough proved his prospects as a Michigan State stud, posting a time of 13:59.58. Stimpfel clocked in shortly behind his teammate at 14:08.57. 2023 NCAA Cross Country National Champion Graham Blanks of Harvard defended his home city to win the event with a time of 13:03.78.
Next, several other Spartans will make their debuts at the GVSU Holiday Open in down the road on I-96 in Allendale, Mich. on Friday, Dec. 8.
