Spartans Impress at GVSU Big Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. - Michigan State track & field continued the indoor season Friday at Grand Valley State's Big Meet, posting a number of impressive performances.
DISTANCE
Four Spartans competed in the women's 5000m, led by graduate student Grace Molloy in her first 5000m in the Green & White. Molloy placed third in 16:42.41, followed by junior Taylor Visscher in sixth who also clocked a sub-17 performance in a personal-best 16:44.96. Junior Emily Bardwell placed 12th with a time of 17:01.18, while senior Abigail Lee ran a personal best of 17:16.21 to finish 10th in her section.
Sophomore Tess Piper and senior Elizabeth Dalrymple were the lone Spartans in the women's mile and 800m, respectively. Piper ran 5:09.23 in her first career mile, while Dalrymple ran 2:24.27 in the 800m.
On the men's side, junior Hunter Zartman ran 1:54.43 in the 800, and junior Luke Perelli ran a personal best of 4:11.80 to finish 11th in the mile. Freshman Timothy Cherry ran the 800 unattached, finishing fifth in 1:51.71.
SPRINTS/HURDLES
Freshman duo Melissa Avi and Anyssa Hall competed in both the 60m and 200m dashes Friday afternoon. Avi ran 8.11 in the 60m and 26.43 in the 200m, while Hall ran personal bests in both events, running 7.79 in the 60m and 25.81 in the 200m.
Freshman Regan Lawrence was the lone Spartan sprinter on the men's side, running 8.67 in the men's 60m hurdles.

MSU will participate in another weekend doubleheader, competing in the Silverston Invitational in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Friday, Feb. 17 before heading to South Bend, Indiana, to participate in the Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 18 in what will be the final tune-up before the Big Ten Indoor Championships taking place on Feb. 24-25 in Geneva, Ohio.
