Dorwart On Tim Taylor Rookie Of The Year Watch List
2/9/2023 2:21:00 PM | Men's Ice Hockey
East Lansing -- Michigan State freshman forward Karsen Dorwart (Sherwood, Oregon) has been named to the watch list for the Tim Taylor Award, given annual to college hockey's top rookie.
A total of 27 first-year players was announced today by the Hockey Commissioners Association. At season's end, a ballot consisting of each Division I conference's Rookie of the Year will be presented to the assistant coaches and they will vote, one vote per school, to identify the winner. This year's National Rookie of the Year will be announced during the Frozen Four in Tampa in April. The complete release from the Hockey Commissioners Association can be found here.
Dorwart, who centers the Spartans' top line, shares the team lead in points (25) on nine goals and 16 assists, which is second on the team in both categories. He has scored four power play goals, which is also second among Spartans.
The rookie had a four-assist game earlier this season against LIU, which remains the most assists in a game this season by any player nationally, accomplished by 17 skaters. He is also one of three Spartans to have a hat trick this season.
Michigan State has a series with No. 5 Michigan this weekend. The squads will face off on Friday at Munn Ice Arena, a game that will air live on Ballys Sports Detroit. ESPN U will carry Saturday's game with the Wolverines in the Duel in the D at Little Caesars Arena.
