Michigan State Falls to Ohio State in Big Ten Tournament, 68-58

CHICAGO – Michigan State's men's basketball team fell behind early in the first half and could not recover, falling to Ohio State, 68-58, in the Big Ten Quarterfinals on Friday afternoon at United Center.
Graduate forward Joey Hauser scored 15 points and had six rebounds to lead the Spartans, while senior guard Tyson Walker added 10 points, three rebounds and two assists, sophomore guard Jaden Akins had 10 points and four rebounds and junior guard A.J. Hoggard added 10 points and five rebounds.

Michigan State falls to 19-12 overall, while Ohio State improves to 16-18.

- Michigan State trailed by nine points, 33-24, at halftime, but used a 10-3 burst over the first 3:25 of the second half and pulled to within two points, 36-34, on a driving layup from Hoggard, forcing Ohio State to call a timeout.
- The Buckeyes responded with back with 3-pointers from Bruce Thornton and Justice Sueing to push the lead to 42-34, triggering a 10-2 run that was capped by a Thornton layup giving Ohio State a 46-36 lead with 11:29 left.
- Ohio State extended its lead to 13 points, 54-41, on a 3-pointer from Sueing with 7:37 to play, but the Spartans again fought back, using a 9-2 burst to pull within 56-50 on a jumper from Hoggard with 4:54 to play.
- After an Ohio State timeout, the Buckeyes, scored five-straight points, pushing the lead back to double digits on a 3-pointer from Roddy Gayle Jr., making it 61-50 with 3:13 left.
- A free throw from Thornton with 49 seconds left gave Ohio State its biggest lead, 68-54, before Akins and freshman guard Tre Holloman hit baskets to close out the scoring.
