Terps Take Two from Spartans on Friday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Michigan State softball dropped a pair of contests against Maryland on Friday, March 31, falling by scores of 3-0 and 11-0 in Big Ten action.
The Spartans fall to 10-16 overall and 1-4 in conference play following the loses while Maryland improves to 25-8 overall and 2-3 in the Big Ten.
Game One – Maryland 3, Michigan State 0
Spartan Stats
Sophomore Faith Guidry (2-4) drew the start for the Spartans in game one tossing her fourth complete game of the season. Guidry allowed three earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two.
Fifth year Jessica Mabrey, freshman Mandy Esman and senior Anna Fox had hits for the Spartans in game one.
Scoring Summary
Maryland used a two-out bases loaded triple by Michaela Jones to open up a 3-0 lead over the Spartans in the first inning.
That first inning would prove to be the difference as Guidry faced just four batters over the minimum over the next five frames.
Game Two - Maryland 11, Michigan State 0
Spartan Stats
Sophomore Madison Taylor (2-5) started game two for the Spartans and was briefly relieved by junior Ashley Miller before re-entering the contest. Miller recorded one out in her return to the circle allowing two hits and an earned run (three unearned) while striking out one. Taylor finished her day in the circle with 2.1 innings pitched allowed six earned runs (one unearned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out two.
Junior Ashlyn Roberts entered the game in the third inning, pitching 1.1 innings allowing one hit and striking out one.
Mabrey and senior Kendall Kates had hits for the Spartans in game two, with Kates doubling in the fifth.

Maryland tallied another three-piece in the first inning of game two using a triple by Kiley Goff and a Jaeda McFarland double.
A five-run second put the Terps up 8-0 over the Spartans through two. An early error prolonged the inning and allowed a pair of runs to score. Maryland took advantage with three consecutive base hits in the inning.
The Terps added three more in the third to increase their advantage to 11-0. Amelia Lech hit a two-run home run to centerfield for Maryland.
