Men's and Women's Track & Field, 13 Spartans Earn USTFCCCA Academic Awards

EAST LANSING, Mich. - 13 Michigan State track & field student-athletes have been named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Athletes, as announced by the organization Thursday (July 13). In addition, the Spartan men's and women's teams both earned All-Academic Team honors.
The awards mark the third-straight season both the men's and women's programs have earned academic honors from the USTFCCCA.
For a program to capture USTFCCA All-Academic status, both individual teams must combine for a 3.0 GPA. To be eligible for individual accolades, athletes must hold a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or above while also being either an NCAA qualifier, among the top-96 nationally in your respective event according to the NCAA indoor list or in the top-48 regionally on the NCAA outdoor list.
Heath Baldwin, Michael Davenport, Noah Sage, Trevor Stephenson, CarLee Stimpfel, Ryan Talbot and Dylan Terryberry earned All-Academic honors on the men's side, while Shakira Dancy, Lauren Freeland, Sophia Mettes, Katie Osika, Valadian Pallett and Kate Stewart-Barnett collected All-Academic honors on the women's side.
Stephenson ends his MSU career as a four-time All-Academic recipient. Talbot and Osika earned their third All-Academic nods, while Baldwin, Sage, Freeland and Stewart-Barnett recieved the honor for the second time. Davenport, Terryberry, Dancy, Mettes and Pallett are first-time honorees.
Stimpfel earns his first Division I All-Academic nod after collecting three Division II awards as a student-athlete at Saginaw Valley State.
Baldwin, Sage, Stephenson, Talbot, Dancy, Freeland, Osika and Stewart-Barnett earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors in June.
Overall, more than 150 Division I teams captured accolades, while more than 1,600 athletes were named All-Academic in NCAA Division I.
