Eighth-Ranked Spartans Return to Jenison Field House to Host New Hampshire Friday

EAST LANSING, Mich. -Â No. 8 Michigan State gymnastics (12-3, 9-0 B1G) returns to non-conference action for the final three weeks of the regular season beginning Friday, March 1 against New Hampshire at 7 p.m. in Jenison Field House.
The meet will serve as the Spartans' annual Breast Cancer Awareness Meet, with live streaming available on B1G+.
Fans can donate items (fuzzy socks, tumblers, ginger tea, unscented lotion, lip balm, lemon candy) for complimentary admission.
NOTABLES
MSU enters Friday's meet at a national qualifying score of 197.435, good for eighth in the NCAA. The Spartans won their third-straight Big Five Meet on Feb. 23 with a 197.275, defeating Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio State and Rutgers to go undefeated in the conference and win their second-straight Big Ten regular season title.
In the team event rankings, MSU sits in the top 10 on vault (T-No. 4, 49.355 NQS), bars (No. 8, 49.370) and beam (No. 9, 49.285), while sitting at a season-high tie for 11th on floor (49.455).
Individually, sophomore Nikki Smith won the vault title at the Big Five Meet with a near-perfect 9.975, helping her earn Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week honors for the second time this season. Smith also placed second on bars (9.900) and scored a 9.850 on floor to clinch the title for the Spartans.Â

Four other Spartans found themselves on the podium at the Big Five Meet, including sophomore Sage Kellerman (third, vault, 9.900), senior Delanie Harkness (second, bars, 9.900), junior Skyla Schulte (second, bars, 9.900, third, floor, 9.925) and sophomore Elle Beaufait (third, floor, 9.925). Schulte (39.400) and junior Gabrielle Stephen (39.325) finished third and fourth in the all-around, respectively.
THE MATCHUP
New Hampshire ranks 49th in the Week 8 Road to Nationals rankings with an NQS of 195.110. The Wildcats hold a season-high of 195.875, set on Feb. 11 in a home quad meet against Brown, Rutgers and Towson, and most recently defeated Southern Connecticut State, Fisk and Rhode Island College on Feb. 25 with a 195.200. Graduate student Kylie Gorgenyi tied UNH's all-around record in the Wildcats' last outing with a 39.475.
The Spartans and Wildcats last met on Feb. 12, 2011, in a quad meet with Brown and Alaska-Anchorage at New Hampshire. UNH scored a 194.650 to win the meet, while MSU finished second with a 193.425.
UNH is led by fifth-year head coach Lindsay Bruck Ayotte, who was a two-time All-American at Michigan from 2004-08.
