Men’s Golf Back in Action this Weekend at the Windon Memorial

East Lansing, Mich. – After back-to-back top-five finishes to start the season, Michigan State's men's golf team is back in action this weekend, playing in the Windon Memorial Classic at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament starts on Sunday, Sept. 29 with 36 holes and concludes with 18 on Monday, Sept. 30.

CONWAY FARMS GOLF CLUB
Conway Farms Golf Club opened for play in 1991. The Tom Fazio award-winning course sits on 209 acres in Lake Forest, Ill. and is designed around Scottish links golf traditions. The course was the concept of three families who purchased a farm in 1956 along Conway Road, providing its name. The Club and course are dedicated to the protection and preservation of the game, encouraging walking, fast play and a strong support of amateur golf.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS
Michigan State is coming off a fifth place finish (among 10 teams) at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational at 6-under par 858 … The Spartans opened the season with a fourth place showing (among 15 teams) at the Folds of Honor Collegiate, finishing at 9-over par 861 … Senior Ashton McCulloch has paced the Green & White through two events, carrying a 68.66 scoring average … He fired an 11-under par 205 and finished in third place at the Canadian Collegiate … It was his second top-five finish of the year, following a fourth place finish at the Folds of Honor (6-under par 207) … Junior Caleb Bond is second on the team with a 71.50 scoring average and is coming off a tie for 11th at the Canadian Collegiate (5-under par 211), his second top-20 of the year … Freshman Julian Menser has played the first two events as part of the scoring lineup and is fourth on the team with a 74.50 average, while sophomore Lorenzo Pinili is sixth on the team at 75.83 … Freshman Juan Velasquez makes his second start of the year .. He tied for 45th place at the Folds of Honor, posting a 14-over par 227.
LUBAHN'S THOUGHTS
"For such a young group where we've had lineups featuring one or two freshmen along with a sophomore and a transfer, I'm pretty pleased with where we are at as a group. Caleb (Bond) has been a great addition and added some experience but we are really leaning on our youngsters not only to be contributors, but to be consistent contributors. Like any team, we'll have some growing pains, but I'm excited about where we are going."
