NOTES TO KNOW:
• Michigan State hockey puts a spotlight on cancer awareness throughout the month of November with its annual 'Spartans Full Strength' initiative, in partnership with the Stephen Swistak Memorial Fund. MSU players and staff will wear purple ribbons throughout the month.
• Swistak played four seasons at Michigan State from 2000-04 before completing his medical degree from MSU's College of Human Medicine in 2008. He had just started his job at Detroit Medical Center before being diagnosed with recurrent esophageal cancer, passing away in June 2015.
• Michigan State is ranked No. 1 in the USCHO.com poll and No. 1 in the USA Hockey poll for the fifth consecutive week. It's the second week this season that MSU has garnered every first place vote in both polls. Last season the Spartans spent nine weeks as the consensus top team in the country.
• Michigan State's nine-game unbeaten streak is the longest active streak of its kind in the country.
• Michigan State is coming off a 2-0-0 weekend on the road at Notre Dame winning by scores of 4-1 and 3-1.
• Freshman Porter Martone (3-0-3), freshman Ryker Lee (2-1-3) and senior Charlie Stramel (0-3-3) led the Spartans with three points each last weekend in South Bend. Junior Maxim Strbak (1-1-2) and senior Daniel Russell (0-2-2) also had multi-point weekends.
• Junior goaltender Trey Augustine was named the Big Ten First Star of the Week for the second consecutive week following his performance against the Irish. Augustine held the Irish to two goals over the course of the weekend on 54 shots faced, good for a conference leading .963 save percentage and 1.01 goals against average. He was the only goalie in the Big Ten to post a goals against average under 2.00 on the weekend. His 1.32 GAA and .948 save percentage on the season rank third in the NCAA.
• A pair of wins gave Augustine 50 for his career at Michigan State, making him one of just four active goaltenders in Division I to reach the milestone. He's the ninth goalie to do it at MSU and is 12 wins behind Bob Essensa's career 62 (eighth-most in program history).
• Martone was named the Big Ten Third Star of the Week. He tied for the conference lead with three goals last weekend, scoring the game-winning goal in each of Michigan State's wins over Notre Dame. The freshman scored twice in the first period of game one and once in the second period of game two. Stramel assisted on two of Martone's three goals in the series. Martone leads the Spartans in scoring through 10 games with 14 points (7 goals, 7 assists).
• It is the fourth First Star honor of Augustine's career and seventh B1G weekly honor overall, while Martone earned his first weekly accolade.
• Michigan State ranks #2 nationally in scoring defense (1.40), #8 in scoring offense (3.70) and  #3 in scoring margin (+2.30).
