NOTES TO KNOW:
• Michigan State hockey puts a spotlight on cancer awareness throughout the month of November with its annual 'Spartans Full Strength' initiative, in partnership with the Stephen Swistak Memorial Fund. MSU players and staff will wear purple ribbons throughout the month.
• Swistak played four seasons at Michigan State from 2000-04 before completing his medical degree from MSU's College of Human Medicine in 2008. He had just started his job at Detroit Medical Center before being diagnosed with recurrent esophageal cancer, passing away in June 2015.
• Michigan State is ranked No. 3 in the USCHO.com poll and No. 3 in the USA Hockey poll this week after five consecutive weeks ranked No. 1 and two weeks garnering every first place vote. MSU has not been ranked lower than No. 4 in either poll this season.
• MSU is coming off an 0-2-0 weekend against now No. 2-ranked Wisconsin in which it fell in a pair of close games, 5-4 and 2-1 (OT).
• Freshman Porter Martone tied game two at 1-1 with just 39.8 seconds remaining in the third period to force overtime. Martone posted four total points (3-1-4) on the weekend contributing to four of the Spartans' five goals. He was second in points in the Big Ten last week and led the conference in power play goals (2).
• The Peterborough, Ontario native now leads Michigan State with 18 points (10-8-18) and is tied for 4th in the country in points per game at 1.50. Martone's 0.83 goals per game ranks 6th nationally.
• Freshman Ryker Lee (1-1-2), senior Daniel Russell (1-1-2) and senior Charlie Stramel (0-2-2) also posted multi-point weekends for Michigan State.
• Michigan State's top line of Russell-Stramel-Martone has recorded 44 points this season on 17 goals and 27 assists. They are a combined +38 with Stramel and Martone leading the way at +13 each.
• Stramel is #15 nationally in face-off wins (152), #21 in assists per game (0.83) and #22 in points per game (1.25).
• Junior goaltender Trey Augustine is among the best in the country ranking #1 in shutouts (3), #8 in goals against average (1.72) and #8 in save percentage (.935). Augustine leads the Big Ten in all three categories.Â
• Michigan State ranks #4 nationally in scoring defense (1.75), #13 in scoring offense (3.50) and  #4 in scoring margin (+1.75). MSU leads the Big Ten in scoring defense and is third in scoring offense.
